Bano Qudsia was a writer, intellectual, playwright and
spiritualist who writes Urdu novels and short stories. She is best known for
her novel Raja Gidh and has written for television and stage in both the Urdu
and Punjabi languages. Her play Aadhi Baat has been called "a
classic".
Qudsia moved with her family to Lahore during the Partition
of India. Her father, a landlord with a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, died
when she was young. She attended school
in Dharamsala in eastern India before moving to Lahore. Her mother, Mrs.
Chattah, was an educator.
She married novelist Ashfaq Ahmed.
She wrote for college magazines and other journals. She graduated from Kinnaird College in
Lahore. In 1951, she completed her M.A. degree in Urdu from the Government
College Lahore.
